BETS
WELS FARGO
Hideki Matsuyama 30/1 — The last we saw Hideki he was the popular pick to be the one to potentially knock off Scheffler at Augusta. He didn’t. However, if he was able to retain a modicum of his previous form, Quail Hollow, the site of his first real Major collapse, is a perfect venue to notch win number two on the season.
Cameron Young 35/1 — After taking a few weeks off of getting SCAMMED it’s now my week to get stuck in the honeypot. The numbers all check out. As they always do. But you we all know the end of this tale.
Sahith Theegala 40/1 (after 30% boost)— With four Top 10 in his past seven starts, Theegala simply continues to give himself a chance to win most weeks comer Sunday. He hasn’t happened since Napa in the fall, but merely through attrition, he’ll get across the finish line again soon. In a tournament which as seen many breakthroughs for young stars over the years, it may just be Theegala’s week.
THEEGALA BONUS 66/1 PGA Championship — Sure, he may remain the number (or larger) if he struggles at Quail Hollow, but any kind of form and it’s going to get crushed. If you like him this week and next, it’s better to bet it now.
Will Zalatoris 55/1 — The number was too big for what seems like his “back injury” was more “I don’t want to play six weeks in a row into a Major.” That could be way off base, but there’s been no signs of this injury anymore. The 55 is long gone. I’d still play it at 40 which is available almost everywhere.
Jake Knapp 125 (8 Places) — The first time Knapp went into Sunday with a lead he struggled out of the gate but kept it together enough to secure his first win. The second time, last week, the struggles just continued too long to recover. Still, he followed up his Mexico victory with another great performance at PGA National the next week. There’s no reason to shy away at Quail Hollow, a course which should allow him to go full sent with his driver as often as he wants. He’s clearly in good form, may as well ride it at an excellent course fit.
MYTRLE BEACH
Justin Lower 45 — The bet’s probably Top 30 at +105, since Lower has done that in each of his past four starts, but I’m greedy, iso I’m hoping the form translates into a win.
Ryan Moore 85 & Ben Martin 75 — Martin’s irons abandoned him on the weekend in Texas where he dropped on approach for the first time in seven starts. Moore has fizzled off a bit since a hot ball striking run for a month too. But after Horschel and Garnett claimed the first two ALT events, I’m just searching for a former winner veteran who may not get overwhelmed playing near the lead down the stretch.
Jorge Campillo 80 — Campillo’s very quietly strung together two decent starts in a row. He was T18 in the Dominican and was actually much better than his T24 a week ago at Byron Nelson where he finished 6th in approach. He’s won three times on the DPWT, the irons and short game have been steady, so he just need to flip his putter back to what it was when he first showed up in the US the year.
Kelly Kraft 110 (3 Places) — I’m fully prepared to watch him turn back into a pumpkin but there’s been nary a time where the far and away top option by my numbers was this low down the board.
WEATHER
I’m guessing we’ll see some friendly pin locations in the first two rounds with sso much wind in the forecast. With only 70 players, the gap between the first and last tee times is only 2 hours. Not even worth pocket stacking tee times with this outlook.

Tambo and I broke down a bunch of different lineup builds for the week on Wednesday’s show. With Ludvig WDing, Clark is going now likely to be the highest owned player on the slate. Outside of the lineups I built on the show, I actually went full fade on Rory, Xander and Clark across 35 lineups.

I mainly started teams with three of Fleetwood/Morikawa/Homa/Theegala/Young/Hideki and built from there. The proper play was likely to use a bunch of Cantlay, but I just couldn’t bring myself to plug him into my lineups.

SECRET BONUS SHOW
Since you’ve made it this far in the newsletter. First, thank you. I really do enjoy writing these. I hope you enjoy reading it. Secondly, I’ve already recorded my Player-by-Player preview for the PGA Championship with Byron and you’ve discovered the link to the show. I was originally going to do, “you get the show if you sign up With underdog using code MAYO”, but that’s low, even for me. And I’m scrapping the bottom of the barrel with sad ad promos over here as it is.
However, if you’ve been on the fence about signing up for Underdog, signups the the things that’s keeping the show going right now. So, all of them count for all the shows.
