WYNDHAM BETS
Brian Harman — Already a perfect course skill fit, as in Sedgefield doesn’t penalize his lack of distance, which means it’s a wedge and putting competition. In an event that’s likely to be lift clean and place, a fairway finder like Harman can simply stalk pins. It doesn’t hurt we witnessed him win an Open in foggy conditions either.
Si WOOOOOO — Hated the 22s lingering most of the week then a 28 Popped up at Bet 365 on Wednesday. I’m not made of stone.
Bobert MacIntrye - one of the most accomplished players in the field generally, Bobs already has two wins at shorter courses in the last three months yet is price at double the odds of an amateur.
CT Pan — The Panimal should have won this event a few years back, but an untimely OB coming home handed the tournament to JT Poston. Revenge time. Like Harman, Pan hits a bunch of fairways and can get DIALED IN from 125 and in. Fresh off representing his country in Paris, Pan can ride that momentum against a weaker field.
Kuchar & Tood — Fairways. Wedges. Pray for hot putting.
JJ Spaun — I keep flushing money down the Spain toilet but it really does seem like he’s close. The putter has remained solid, the iron terrific, just need one better driving out of the guy to build on hi recent solid results.
WEATHER!!!!!
By now, I’m sure you’d been caught up to speed on Tropical Storm (soon to be hurricane! VERTABREAKER) Debbie coming through the region Thursday. As of now, Thursday doesn’t look promising for many holes, yet as it stands currently, Friday may not be so bad. Problem is, these types of storms can linger in an area and create a longer period (and more) rain, which may lead to flooding. That’d be bad. Especially since I’m supposed to fly in on Thursday for the event. If this forecast holds true, we’ll have delays, but still enough time to get caught up.
WIND TOWER: Greensboro
UNDERDOG RD 1
As you saw with the weather, there is extreme wind expected Thursday, but also so much rain that most guys likely won’t see the courses. If that’s the case, the field may get target practice as some soft greens when they can finally hit the course. Also, going under on Spieth has paid handsome rewards since this wrist injury became public knowledge. Dude can’t hit an iron rn.

Tournament Preview
Field: 156 Players | Top 65 and Ties Make the Cut after 36 Holes
First Tee: Thursday, August 8
Defending Champion: Lucas Glover
Course: Sedgefield CC
Yardage: 7,131
Par: 70
Greens: Bermuda
Par 3s (4) - Average distance: 202 yards
The long par 3s (both over 220 yards) played as two of the six toughest holes with a bogey-or-worse rate north of 16% while the short par 3s (both under 180 yards) played as two of the six easiest (average birdie rate: 19.7%).
Par 4s (12) - Average distance: 438 yards
The four toughest holes on the course were all back-nine par 4s, three of them coming in a five-hole stretch (holes 10-14)
Par 5s (2) - Average distance: 537 yards
- Without a doubt, the two par 5s are the easiest holes on the course, both with a sub-10% bogey-or-worse rate and an eagle rate north of 4%. Hole No. 5 had an average score just 0.2 strokes higher than the par 4 11th.

Past Winners
2023: Lucas Glover -20
2022: Tom Kim -20
2021: Kevin Kisner -15
2020: Jim Herman -21
2019: J.T. Poston -22
2018: Brandt Snedeker -21
2017: Henrik Stenson -22
2016: Si Woo Kim: -21
2023: Lucas Glover (-20, two clear of Benny An and Russell Henley)
- He was the best player on the course on moving day with a 62, three better than the two eventual runner ups)
- You need to be great ... the top-3 finishers all gained over 4 strokes on approach AND on putting (Glover was +9.1 strokes in approach, three full strokes ahead of anyone else)
2022: Tom Kim (-20, five clear of John Huh and Sungjae Im)
- A Sunday 61 (tied for the best of the tournament, Johnny Question Marks did it on Thursday) was six shots better than Huh and seven better than Im in that final round
Kim wasn't a top 30 tee-to-green player for the week ... he just picked up 12.5 strokes putting (more than double any other week of his career)
2021: Kevin Kisner (-15, playoff win over Branden Grace, Si Woo Kim, Kevin Na, Adam Scott, and Roger Sloan)
- Kisner's best round was a 65 on Thursday -- he won due to consistency, carding nothing worse than a 68 for the week
- 10 of the top 14 finishers lost distance off the tee (12 of them, however, gained in good drives)
2020: Jim Herman (-21, one clear of Billy Horschel)
- Herman went 66-69 in the first two rounds (Horschel was five strokes better), but closed with 61-63 (the best round in each of those days)
- The top-8 of the final leaderboard all gained strokes putting from that predictive 10-15 foot window (Zach Johnson was the best in that range ... allowing him to post a T-7 finish in a week he lost strokes putting in the 0-5, 5-10, and 25+ foot windows)
2019: JT Poston (-22, one clear of Webb Simpson)
2019: Poston didn’t play either of the two weeks prior to winning this event (three weeks prior to the win, he missed the cut at John Deere).
He posted the second-best SG:APP of his career during the win, but again, it was tough to see coming as he had lost strokes on approach in four of his six events prior.
Neither Poston nor Simpson carded a round worse than 66, but Poston saved his best for last with a Sunday 62.
Four of the top five in SG: OTT finished in the top six on the final leaderboard.
Notes
Seven of the Eight seven champions have breached the -20 barrier in their victories with Strokes Gained: Approach and Strokes Gained: Putting being more than twice as impactful to the top five finishers on the leaderboard the last decade. The Bermuda greens putting surfaces are around TOUR average (6,500 sq. feet) and historically run faster than most PGA TOUR greens.
With just two par 5s on the layout, both reachable in two by every player in the field (No. 5 has a 6.4% eagle rate, while No. 15 has a 4.1% eagle rate), it’s the eight par 4s measuring between 400-450 yards that will end up being the separator. Over the past 24 rounds, per Fantasy National, Alex Smalley, Sungjae Im, Adam Svensson, Roger Sloan and Robert MacIntyre have gained the most strokes on holes from that distance.
Beyond East Lake (TOUR Championship), Detroit CC (Rocket Mortgage Classic) is the other regular rotation Donald Ross course. There has been very little crossover between Detroit and Sedgefield, however. Actually, even more than East Lake, it’s Harbour Town (Heritage), TPC Sawgrass (The PLAYERS) and Sea Island (RSM Classic) which have been leaderboard corollaries over the years.
DraftKings
Look, I can’t tell ya which wave to play when there’s no weather, but knowing SOMETHING is going to be delayed, it’s a great opportunity to stack up both sides of the draw in your lineups and hope one side gets annihilated. It’s paid massive dividends before.
PET PEEVE BRACKET
I recorded Part 1 with Sia and Overzet and it was one of my fav shows of the year. THEN, I recorded part two with Adam Pranica and Cust and it was also awesome. The best mini series I’ve done in some time. Part 1 drops tomorrow, Part 2 in a week or so. But since you’re all such lovely people, I’ve provided BOTH early links for you.
Remember to vote on a final 4 too.
