Regarding Claypool

Matt Eberflus, speaking sort of loosely about new WR Chase Claypool, said it could be anywhere from 10 to 35 snaps for him on Sunday. This much we know: Claypool will play. How many snaps he gets could be dependent how many plays the offense has as a whole.

Mayakoba Picks

Only a few more opportunities to waste money on golf in 2022 (or maybe win????), so I rang up Ben Rasa and talked through the field.

Collin Morikawa — The results haven’t been close to elite in the swing season, but that’s all 100% putting related. He’s dropped a combined -12.9 SG: PUTT over his past two weight starts. NOT GREAT, BOB!!!! The ball striking? Emasculate; inching back to peak levels. If he can just make a few putts, which is conceivable on the slow, paspalum greens, his irons and accuracy should have him hoisting a novelty check.

Matt Kuchar — BACK to the scene of the crime fro Kuch. Hopefully he can ride his sterling swing season form, pick up another win and make things right with El Tucan.

Emiliano Grillo — The CJ Cup wasn’t kind to Grillo, but now he’s back at a happy place. Accuracy and irons can most definitely prevail at Mayakoba as long as you make a few putts, and Grillo has actually gained with the putter in eight of his past nine starts; good for five Top 10s over that stretch.

Adam Long — Long hasn’t had much juice recently but he is the prototype for a solid result at Mayakoba. One of the most accurate players in the field and always seems to make the putts he should. That’s the recipe for his two Top 10s and no finish worse than 22nd in three starts.

Week 9 Betting Notes

Some betting notes for the week ahead if you’re looking to get invested early …

We have not one, not two, but three games with a total under 48 and a spread of at least 12 points. Since 2011, we’ve had 125 such games. Not a huge sample size, but it’s something. In those games, under tickets have come through 62.4% of the time.
Since the beginning of 2020, home ‘dogs by over a FG cover 56.4% of the time.
Since the beginning of 2019, underdogs in primetime have covered 56.1% of the time
Since the beginning of 2019, unders in primetime have hit 57.6% of the time
This holds for Week 9 and beyond. Don’t think you know something the books don’t when it comes to extended rest. Since 2010, teams with more than the traditional six off days between games are 576-578-25 ATS. You know they have extra time and guess what? The ‘books do too!

Week 9 DraftKings

Between injuries, trades, and a short slate, the numbers will be fine tuned through the week on we get a better idea of how to the playing time is going to shake out. HOWEVER, I always like to see what the inital run of numbers say after we have a clearer idea of what the injury report is going to be.

At Run the Sims, I simulated the main slate for Sunday 10,000 times and here’s what those sims say the optimal plays are across the slate. The early sims ETN, Ekeler and uuuuuuuuugggghhhhhhh… the Bengals offense. Ken Walker is too cheap btw
