Week 8 RB Opportunities
Week 8 Team By Team Notes
PHI: Jalen Hurts leads the league with 13 multi-rush TD games since the start of 2021.
CIN: Mike Gesicki had 24 yards in his previous four games, but returned fantasy value this week -- don't read into it. Tee Higgins sat out and the run game was ineffective, it was the perfect storm. He's not someone I'd be interested in streaming.
BAL: Is Mark Edwards a pass catching version of Gus Edwards? If he doesn't score, he won't get there, but he's scored four times in three games, so it's all good? I've got my concerns, but at least he relies on scoring for an elite offense -- I mean, Edwards was viable for most of last season.
CLE: Cedric Tillman is going to be a popular add and I'm not sure that's wrong. The dude is 6'3", playing with Jameis Winston and gets the Bengals/Dolphins when fantasy titles are being decided (Weeks 16-17).
TEN: Calvin Ridley had 118 first quarter receiving yards, the 10th most in a first quarter since the start of 2015. He entered the game with 56 receiving yards in his four games prior.
DET: Can't do much about that if you're a Jared Goff manager. He had 28 passing yards total three minutes into the second half -- the Lions had 42 points courtesy of every other unit.
AZ: Concentrated offenses are the best and they are even better when the QB comes with mobility. Trey McBride and Marvin Harrison Jr. both easily cleared 100 yards ... this is as friendly of a fantasy offense as we have in terms of knowing how the numbers are being produced.
MIA: Midway through the third quarter, De'Von Achane led the Dolphins in receptions, had a TD catch, and had 86 rushing yards ... which was 87 more than Raheem Mostert.
NYJ: Garrett Wilson may not see elite volume, but if he is still going to hold a deep role (his first three catches all gained over 25 yards against the Patriots) without premier cornerback coverage, he can still be an asset.
NE: Hunter Henry continued to see volume, even with Drake Maye sidelined -- maybe he can hold value in this offense regardless of QB, but he's the only option I trust even a little.
ATL: Kyle Pitts tried hard to fail by letting his foot off the gas early on a touchdown (are you allowed to do that if you struggle to score?). This passing game is potent, so I'm not sweating the down game from Drake London.
TB: Cade Otton was the star of National Tight End Day with more scores in four quarters than he had in his previous 11 games. This team is begging for options in their passing game, but I'm not sure the artist formerly known as Cardio Cade is up for the challenge.
GB: Malik Willis was QB6 in Week 3. I'm not saying he's a starter should Jordan Love sit, but the Packers would have a very specific game plan against the Lions in Week 9 and it would involve Willis' legs.
JAX: Christian Kirk got hurt and it'll be interesting to see what that does in the trade market. Brian Thomas Jr. has scored in four of his past five games and, with each passing week, looks like he might be the best fantasy receiver in this class.
IND: Anthony Richardson's fourth pass TD of the season wasa 69-yarder to Josh Downs -- it was his third 50-plus yard passing score of the season.
HOU: Nothing about Dalton Schultz is exciting, but he's seen at least 6 targets in three of his past four games and with Stefon Diggs going down, there's enough of a role for him to be viable in the short-term at the very least.
NO: A few chunk plays from Alvin Kamara got him there for you, but you're walking a thin line with him.
LAC: Ladd McConkey had the 60-yard score. At the point of that play, he accounted for 61.1% of Los Angeles receiving yards. The big play and the big game is good to see, but to get there, he had to account for such an unsustainably high percentage of this offense.
BUF: Is Khalil Shakir modern day Wes Welker where is just unstoppable in what he does? I used to think he'd regress, but now if a target to him hits the ground, it seems wrong. He's a PPR lineup staple at this point.
SEA: Nobody filled the DK Metcalf void, though this was a tough perimeter matchup. Kenneth Walker continues to show growth as a pass catcher and has a path to being a top-3 producer at the position.
CAR: Enter Bryce Young, exit all fantasy value. That's not 100% fair, Diontae Johnson was out, but Chuba Hubbard was ineffective because there is zero respect for the passing game.I'm not playing a Panther as long as they start Young and that looks like the remainder of the season.
DEN: Courtland Sutton finally showed up to the Bo Nix party. That said, I still don't trust it -- Nix is a QB streamer while the other pieces of this offense are going to be all over the place weekly. This was a nice showing for Sutton and Trautman, but ... #Carolina
KC: Hopkins got the early catch, but he looked pretty much how you'd think in a team debut. I expect him to be a Flex play sooner than later, don't be discouraged by the underwhelming line. As for Xavier Worthy -- that profile is concerning, especially if/when the targets dry up.
LV: Jakobi Meyers paid off if you blindly started him because "he's the WR1 on this offense", but that's a dangerous way to live. You'll get away with it on occasion, but I think there's more risk than reward.
CHI: I can't decide if this was a Bears offense or Commanders defense thing. Maybe Washington is trending toward viable? I'd guess not, but this Bears offense is going to be hit-and-miss, that much I feel good about.
WAS: Terry McLaurin caught the early bomb and that was nice, but this was an ugly game. Ertz vacuumed in high percentage looks and that works at the TE position, but for an explosive offense, this team lacks reliable pass catchers.
