Week 3 Team Notes
Titans: We've been watching DeAndre Hopkins and Derrick Henry for years, turns out, the thing that can stop them is Ryan Tannehill. Will they make a change under center? They play abroad in Week 6 and have a Week 7 bye, so we could see it happen. I don't even know that a change will help these two, but I know that no change is a problem for any hope of efficiency.
Browns: Jerome Ford looked fine. He was left alone on the TD catch and punched in a short score. With 10 carries for 18 yards and Kareem Hunt there to soak up usage in the pass game, his value might be at its peak right now. Although, it was about the worst match an RB can have and he still produced. While the value may be peaking, you may not get what you want in return so a hold is likely the best move.
Falcons: Kyle Pitts and Jonnu Smith combined for a 44.7% target share. Yikes. Even with game script demanding more pass attempts recently for the Falcons, none of their pass catchers makes sense to count on. Ridder threw for 201 yards and didn't support a single player reaching double figures in PPR points as a pass catcher.
Lions: A fan of the usage for Jahmyr Gibbs and without high-end production, there is still a reasonable bye window on the rookie. Goff threw 33 passes and targeted just four different players.
Saints: Rashid Shaheed was held without a catch, but the punt return TD helped. He remains a viable option for those looking for high end potential at their flex position (40+ yard play in six of his past eight games).
Packers: Jayden Reed made a big play late, but he also had a few bad drops that could have made his fantasy day more impressive. I'm skeptical that any Packer WR's matter when Christian Watson is back in the mix, but the rookie does at least need to be rostered. Is it fair to wonder if AJ Dillon isn't as good as we want him to be? Just 3.0 yards per carry and when the Packers were close to the end zone, Love elected to keep an RPO for the score.
Broncos: Another few big plays for Marvin Mims and that profile makes him interesting with bye weeks quickly approaching. Russ was inaccurate and unable to repeat the rushing success from last week: still not interested in him, even with 306 passing yards in this 50-point loss.
Dolphins: 8 TDs for the running backs. Yea, safe to call them both a sell-high if you can. Probably more Mostert than Achane. Jeff Wilson can come off of IR in Week 5 and this remains a pass to set up the pass offense. No Jaylen Waddle and no resistance from the Broncos certainly helped the cause here. Miami is always going to score, but it's rarely going to look like this.
Patriots: The Hunter Henry bubble was always going to burst and he struggled in this ugly game (2-17). The real concern: 'Zeke had more rushing and receiving yards than Rhamondre Stevenson. We thought the scoring would be limited, but a timeshare isn't something that I saw coming. Part of it might be due to the weather, but Stevenson is one of the bigger fallers in ROS rankings after September.
Jets: Basically a point a target for Garrett Wilson. That seems to be about what we can expect and that's simply not going to be worth a ton in this offense. He's the type of guy you sell the second he scores again or after his next highlight play. Or you buy and pray Zach Wilson gets cut.
Bills: Another efficient week from James Cook and another week without getting those valuable carries. Ugh. The kid can play, but his fantasy ceiling is pretty much what we've seen over the past two weeks. Gabe Davis offers nice upside and made another big play, but I'm not sure Josh Allen is consistent enough to sustain a second pas catcher next to Stefon Diggs.
Commanders: Seven yards per carry for Brian Robinson. He's not exciting, but he runs hard and you know what doesn't slump? Hard nosed running. I'm not sweating the bad game from Terry McLaurin: tough matchup and the flow of the game had Buffalo's defense on the attack from the get-go.
Texans: Not guarding Tank Dell on a 68-yard TD was an interesting choice by the Jags. I'm more in on Nico Collins in this pass game than Dell and I don't mind the idea of shopping the small receiver.
Jaguars: Ridley was banged up during this game, but that doesn't help explain away his inefficiency. Lawrence was more accurate on the shorter passes (11-for-14 when targeting Engram and Kirk. Ridley will be better with time, he's just not as valuable as we assumed after the big Week 1. Hold onto him.
Colts: 32 touches following a game where he was the only IND RB to get a touch ... Zack Moss is basically getting Jonathan Taylor usage. Does that change with Trey Sermon (five carries at BAL) getting elevated? Probably, but anything close to this role makes him a solid (albeit unexciting) RB2 in most formats.
Ravens: Don't look now, but Lamar is looking more and more comfortable in this Todd Monken offense: 71% complete with 101 rushing yards in the OT loss. He has a real shot to be as good as any non-Big-Three QB moving forward.
Panthers: Turns out that Andy Dalton starting was indeed an upgrade. Or at least comforting enough to this coaching staff to open up the playbook. The noise this preseason about Miles Sanders being involved in the pass game seems - accurate. He's boring but stable and a weekly starter.
Seahawks: Don't sweat the slow day for Tyler Lockett. The run game was working and DK Metcalf was a matchup problem. Better days are ahead, especially because we saw the early usage.
Bears: If you can get away with not starting a Bear, your team will be better because of it. The DJ Moore TD came late and this franchise is a mess. I'm not interested in chasing this backfield around and I'm not sold that even the elite rushing potential is enough to make Fields a weekly option.
Chiefs: Rashee Rice was tackled on the one-yard line twice. He led Kansas City WRs in targets, catches and yards in this one. He looks like the WR to roll the dice on - for now.
Cowboys: RIP to a lot of survivor entries. Tony Pollard continues to be that dude. Michael Gallup had a big game, but I'm not reading into it. Jake Ferguson continues to see nice usage and that's enough to land him on the low-end TE1 radar.
Cardinals: Michael Wilson is a problem down the field. Of course, covering him is a good idea, but the upside profile is there. He'll be a roster worthy option as we approach bye weeks for those teams that are big underdogs. He's a lot like Marvin Mims in Denver. A fine YOLO play and sometimes that's what you need!
