RSM Classic Bets
Mac Hughes 37 — He has a win and two runners-up at the RSM, and would be 20/1 or lower this week if he hadn’t fired a final round 77 in Bermuda a week ago. Our gain. The putter is it’s typical fire and he’s actually strung together multiple events in the positives with his irons. OOOOOOOOOOOO CANADA!!!!!
Eric Cole 40 — At his peak, Cole has the secret sauce for Sea Island: Spike Irons and Putting. Driving distance can always be beneficial, obviously, but the RSM is another in a string of recent events where its impact is mitigated. The win is long overdue Cole and this could be the week to build off his T3 a year ago.
Lucas Glover 40 — He’s gone backwards (or BANKWAYS, according to Señor Cardgage) the last two events. But now he returns to the mainland, and is one of 35 guys playing a home game this week. The putter spiked at Sanderson farms on similar greens, and we’ve seen a lot of crossover success between those two events in the past. Oh, and he’s been far and away the best approach player during the swing too.
Jacob Bridgeman 66 — A Top 20 bet is probably the proper way to bet Bridgeman every week considering he has posted five Top 20s in his past eight starts without coming inside the Top 10 in any of them, yet, like Cole, has that spike putting upside needed to win a birdie fest like RSM. His irons are generally the reason his upside is capped. It’s not that they’re bad, they just never stay crisp enough for four days. But a great flat stick can always trump that if it gets hot enough, and we’ve seen that from Bridgeman. He’s gained at least two strokes putting in seven of his last 10 measured events.
Joe Highsmith 80 + Top 20 — With four Top 20 finishes in five Swing Season starts, Highsmith’s putter has started to catch up to his recent run of hot ball striking. I’m guessing he got buried on the odds board this week because he decided to skip Bermuda last week to get some rest.
Carson Young 110 + Top 20 — There’s always a worry Young will chip himself out of contention. For his career he’s losing a stroke per round around the greens and it’s actually been worse lately. But that’s not a real concern in the outright market. If he’s missing so many greens his chipping cripples him, he’s not getting into the -20s anyway. So bank on the upside of the irons and hope the putter matches.
