Week 9 Team-By-Team Notes
Chiefs: Rashee Rice scored the first TD of the game (shoutout to the PROP SNIPER), but left fantasy managers wanting more with just one catch the rest of the game. Consecutive games without "Mahomes like" numbers from Mahomes and now a bye. If the Mahomes team is in win-now mode, I don't hate the idea of exploring a trade offer there.
Dolphins: Raheem Mostert gave us another good game (85 yards, TD), but De'Von Achane is back when they come out of the bye. He's not a must sell, but understand that the most valuable portion of his season is now in the rearview mirror.
Vikings: Dobbs fed Hollywood Brown just under 27% of the targets while in Arizona and he certainly looked viable in the comeback win over the Falcons. He's the QB in Minnesota moving forward and I'm confident he can support a single receiver, but asking him to keep two involved when Justin Jefferson is back is a tough ask. Addison is viable until Jefferson returns, just be aware that the helium could come out of that balloon in a hurry.
Falcons: Taylor Heinicke spread the ball around plenty and that is good for the Falcons offense as a whole, it's just not great for us. Jonnu Smith had the long TD and finished with 100 yards, but with five different Falcons having 4-6 targets, there's no stability here,
Cardinals: Nobody on the Cardinals matters until Kyler Murray returns and even then, it's as much risk as reward (if not more).
Browns: Neither Ford nor Hunt was effective, but it was Ford with the edge in volume. He's my preferred option moving forward, but not by much and I'm in no hurry to bet on this offense putting up fantasy points in bunches.
Rams: Stafford hasn't been great this season, but he's wayyyyy better than replacement value. It's hard to have this collection pass catchers in a positive game script for the air game and not have a single receiver hit 50 yards. Not one. Thankfully, this team goes on bye next week -- hopefully tafford is back for the fantasy stretch run to make this offense at least worth considering.
Packers: Aaron Jones was finally used like a lead back (24 touches) and that should give fantasy managers hope moving forward. Christian Watson left with an injury, opening up potential Flex value for Romeo Doubs with Jayden Reed making for a nice stash.
Commanders: Brian Robinson needs touchdowns to matter ... he just happens to always score. It's been a nice ride for his fantasy managers up to this point, but be aware that his stock could crash in short order. Jahan Dotson saw another eight targets and is working himself onto the "reasonable flier to take because I need upside" toer.
Patriots: Super Demario led the Pats in receiving yards (55) and targets (7), but this offense lacks an alpha pass catcher and that makes target counts impossible to project. It worked out OK in PPR leagues this time because Mac Jones threw 44 passes ... I just don't think that's how New England wants to live.
Bears: A pair of TDs for Cole Kmet is nice if you started him in DFS, but counting on his sustaining value in this offense (with or without Justin Fields) is optimistic thinking. D'Onta Foreman worked well ahead of Roschon Johnson, but with Khalil Herbert due back, I'm having a hard time thinking that any of these backs are top 25 options.
Saints: Taysom Hill can't be stopped. He won't be stopped. He led the team in carries, matched Juwan Johnson in targets and threw a TD pass. We aren't always going to get all three of those boxes checked, but his value at a brutal position can't be denied.
Seahawks: Geno Smith has turned back into a pumpkin and it's killing both Metcalf and Lockett.Metcalf had a single catch and Locket averaged 4 yards per target. Woof. I wish I could tell you things were going to get better, I'm just not sure they will (so be careful in going overboard on JSN).
Ravens: These one-sided games aren't helping Lamar Jackson's fantasy stock. He's playing well, so I'm trusting the process and believing that he will have some massive games moving forward. Five carries for the GUS BUS is a concern, though he did score on two of them. Mark Andrews remains the only reliable piece of this passing game after another slow week from Zay Flowers.
Buccaneers: Mike Evans was an inch away from a touchdown and that hurts if you used him anywhere. Rachaad White had a pair of 1-yard scores, though he still isn't very good. Doesn't matter. His role and versatility makes him an asset in our game.
Texans: Tank Dell went off and I'm not sure that is the most sustainable. Selling high on him is fine, but C.J . Stroud very much looks like the real deal (rookie record 470 passing yards) and with another ugly QB week ahead of us, he's a locked in as a starter.
Colts: Jonathan Taylor appears to finally be the guy in Indy and that's going to pay off in a significant way with time. The Josh Downs injury was a shame ... don't get cute, if he's out, there isn't a secondary option to consider.
Panthers: Hubbard is pretty clearly the back in Carolina and the only one that needs to be rostered. I'm not sweating the down week from Adam Thielen, he'll bounce back.
Giants: There's no reason to throw darts on this pass game. Slayton and Hyatt have the high aDOTs and Robinson, theoretically, has the high volume role, but none of it is stable enough to roster in fantasy.
Raiders: Aiden O'Connell looked fine, but "fine" isn't going to produce big receiver numbers. The combination of the run game and the game script kept the aerial volume in check, though I'm not sure they are ever going to put much on his plate. Jacobs benefited from a big volume spot ... not sure you can count on that much moving forward.
Cowboys: Consecutive games with a TD for DeVonta Smith is good to see, but the sporadic target count is going to result in inconsistent production. He's a weekly Flex option that will basically never finish anywhere near where I rank him -- for better or worse.
Eagles: Hurts looked just fine to my eye. He's got the bye this week to get right and gets the Seahawks-Giants-Cardinals for Weeks 15-17 when your league winner is being decided. He's got a good chance at leading you to glory!
