MEMORIAL BETS
WATCH: Memorial Final Bets, Weather, One and Done
Viktor Hovland — The turnaround has come at exactly the right time for the defending champ. After struggling with this ball striking all year, it’s quickly returned to an elite level the last two events. Then his short game returned from Dante’s fourth circle of Hell after a reunion with Joe Mayo. Vik, like Dante and Virgil, didn’t interact with anyone while there. Maybe he should have at least consulted some insta reels to fix his issues. Just sayin. Either way, Hovland’s short game stats have always been better at courses with heavy, difficult bunkering and lush rough directly off the green like they have Muirfield Village.
Russell Henley —Normally, you think of Henley has a short course/Dye specialist. Which has been true for most of his career with wins at Honda, Sony and Mayakoba over the years. This year as been slightly different however. He posted his typical Top 5 at Sony to kick things off in January, afterwards he’s at Top finishes in signature events at Bay Hill and Quail Hollow, two courses which would seem to defy his usual strengths. Memorial is more on par with those, but will likely be more of a boost for his skills as distance is less important than accuracy. Heneley remains one of the premier accuracy players on TOUR and is currently one of 12 players in this field gaining over a stroke per round T2G over his past 24 rounds.
Ben An — If this was three weeks ago, An’s number would be half this and everyone would have called him a “sneaky value” ands lined up to bet him. He has two off rounds with his irons at Valhalla and apparently the ship has sailed on any hope for his first PGA win. Lest we forget, An should have gotten his breakthrough here in 2018 before losing in a playoff to Bryson. Gazing over his numbers since The Masters, An’s putter has been shockingly stable and the downturn in his chipping numbers are primarily due to a horrid run between the Players and Heritage, two course quite dissimilar to Muirfield Village (although quite similar to Pinehurst next week). The win remains equally as close as it has all year.
Sepp Straka — Three Top 10s in his last four starts, a win at a Jack design in his careers and looking to avenge his final round 75 a year ago when he was sniffing the lead. The accuracy is always present, but it has been Straka’s irons which have been propelling him up leaderboards lately. He’s averaging over a stroke gained on approach per round since mid-April.
Shane Lowry — I feel like an addict who needs to avoid certain people or else they fall back into that old life style. I thought I deleted Lowry’s number, but then he changed his number to 75/1 and I’ve quickly fallen back into old habits. I’m such a fucking sucker.
Thomas Detry — Detry’s game has been all long irons and putting which has resulted in some of the TOUR’s best numbers on Par 5s. That’s come in handy at Muirfield. Shouldn’t hurt on the long Par 3s either.
Lee Hodges — I too am going to Sideshow Bob directly into the Hodges rake. Don’t care. His approach number have simply too great ignore for a number this big. It’s been against strong fields too.
Ancer and López-Chacarra — People told me I should bet them, so I did.
WEATHER
Looks like rain overnight in Dublin which should lead to some favorable scoring conditions before the wind picks up too much in the afternoon. All players start off the first tee this week, so there’s large wave gap than in a standard signature event.

UNDERDOG RD 1
Since I expect the fairways and greens to be slightly softer, with less roll than the typical Memorial round with some of the firmest and fastest elements on TOUR, I targeted fairways hit with some early players since the number seemed quite low. 68% of the field has hit the fairway on average the past five years, so a slight increase in that number early Thursday morning could be a real edge. Or not. I’m wrong about a lot.

MEMORIAL DRAFTKINGS
Since Scottie is going to be the highest owned player, and rightfully so, beware of falling into the trap of rostering all the common players with him: Russell Henley, Sepp Straka, Si Woo Kim, and Lucas Glover all appear to be getting a massive ownership bump since they’re the ones who make Scottie lineups work the easiest. To a lesser extend Hodges, Eckroat and Putnam will be a boost as well. Tambo and I discussed more at length in the show and gave examples of how to get different with Scottie Linueps.

I only played 33 linueps this week. Didn’t wave stack and made some firm choices at the top for my player pool. A few unstarred names are in lineups from the ones I entered while building examples on the show, but here’s how I handled the top. Of note: I’m on a bad DK run atm.
