Tony Finau — Would I back Finau at these odds if I didn’t make this bet three months ago? Probably not. (RIP Tom Kim Wyndham futures btw. He’s out next week). With my track record of picking winners, this may be a good move on my part. Betting on guys I no longer want. The reality is when Finau has been in these spots near the top of the board, he’s actually come through over the past year. It’s the bigger events in the stronger field that have done him in. So, let’s hope the confident boost of being one the best players in the field gets his game back to peak finau levels.
Lucas Glover — Three straight Top Six finishes in mid-to-weak fields for The GLOVE is far and away the best form in the field. He’s gaining +1.4 SG: APP/RD over his last 12 while piling on two strokes per event off the tee over that same period. The biggest thing is going to be his putter. After dropping strokes to the field in 17 of 19 starts, Glover switched putting styles and it immediately paid dividends gaining nine strokes over eight rounds between Detroit and Silvis. Then at the Barbasol is lost to the field. Nothing crazy, -0.7 SG: PUTT, well still far off his nadir -8.5 at the Byron Nelson earlier this season. Just needs to catch a little more lightning in a bottle.
Taylor Pendrith — I’ve been completely off Pendrith all year as the number simply died’t match his hype, yet his price never dropped. Now his price has dropped, everyone’s off of him, but the numbers look promising all of a sudden. He’s strung together consecutive Top 15 finishes fuelled by a massive uptick in his driving and irons numbers. They’ve returned to summer 2022 form. Plus, we’re back on bentgrass where he’s gaining close to a quarter stroke more per round than on Bermudagrass.
Trevor Cone — It may be all small sample noise, but at this price, who cares? After a career best T3 at the Barbasol, where he gained 13 strokes T2G, he;’s now gained on the field in seven straight drive his driver, and three straight with his irons. The putter is hot and cold, but Bentgrass has been his best surface in 2023 on the strength of two event with over +3.7 SG: PUTT in his last five Strats on Bent.
Ghim & Higgo — It didn’t take much to twist my arm on two of my favs. Since I stupidly missed my guy Bhatia’s win last week, maybe Karma can pay me back. The love this week isn’t unwarranted either. Higgo’s second the field to Brent Grant in driving over the past 24 rounds while Ghim is both 14th in driving and in approach. Overall, he’s 3rd T2G over than span.
First Round Leader — Tambo simply mentioned “First Round Leader” so I just chucked some darts.
NFL
NFL content is about to hit full GOOOOOO!!!! Ciely Thursday for booms and busts. Meaney next week for fantasy rankings at RB and WR. But I actually really enjoyed the show I posted Tuesday with Ross Tucker. Ross and I worked on a show together a year ago, and now he’s calling games CBS this season. We talked about broadcast TV prep among other things. Check it.

THE TIDBITS
Tambo will be on site in Blaine starting Friday. So, go say “HI” if you’re there. Also, check out the free tidbits for the week.

The Weather
Weather draw appears pretty even the first two days. Earlier Wednesday it seemed like Friday AM was gonna get hit with a ton of wind. That’s no longer the case from the current forecast. Seems like Thursday at 8pm local gobbled up all the bad weather for the week. If that holds it could mean slightly softer conditions early Friday morning. Again, who knows if that will actually be timing of a lightning storm.

DRAFTKINGS
If I’m resigned to losing every week anyway, I may as well have some fun doing it. Over 150 lineups this week I have 79% Finau. Of the top, I played Finau, Hideki, Straka and Aberg and left the rest alone. While Finau won’t be unowned, he’s currently tracking lower than the others in the range. Although, Cam Young appears to be inching towards him now that more lineups are being generated.
