Masters Bets
I waffled, waited for numbers, consulted talked it through, and now it’s complete. Seems like far too long of a process just to lose all my money.
WATCH: Masters Final Bets, Weather
Everything looks very much like the rest of the week, but I chucked on the final two outrights and the FRLs. If I didn’t go the scatter shot in the First Round Leader market, I would have just gone Spieth, Fleetwood, Straka (I’m not missing out on this Straka FRL $$$ that everyone else is sitting on. Too much FOMO). It should be nmentioned, you think you’re alone in thinking Straka is a “sneaky play”, it’s time to get some friends and speak with them. Chances are they all feel the same way.
The two final decisions came down to Spieth vs Brooks & Lowry vs Fitzpatrick vs Hatton, and in both cases, because I’m a fucking fish, I selected the option at the longer odds. I wish I could help myself, but clearly, I cannot.
One thing that came up in the chat, which I had completely forgotten over the years, is the “Live bet someone inside the Top 6, who isn’t currently winning, on the leaderboard after round one.” Reed, Hideki and Tiger all fit that mold from the past few years. I don’t why I had forgotten that, but I’m going to do. Thanks to the viewer who reminded me!
For everyone asking about the info I passed along on the live chat about DJ and Rory “not being in a good head space right now.” It’s third hand info, from a decent source, mind you. Should this cloud your decision making? NO. Cust picking DJ is far more worrisome. I knew I wasn’t playing either anyway so it seemed like a good way to justify it. Take it for what you will
The change to just Top 50 and ties makes these “To Make the Cut Parlays” far less appealing, but it’s tradition, so why not burn some more cash?
TAMBOS Tidbits
Tambo was on the show today and we talked through everything: Bets, DraftKings, Weather, and even answered as many questions as we could. You can see all that here.
WATCH: Final Bets, Ownership + Viewer Chat
But his best contriution each week is his Tidbits thread where he aggrigates the best golf content from around the community. I enjoy it because it means I don’t need to find it myself. Very helpful.
GALAXY BRAIN: COURSE HISTORY
It’s very easy to argue that course history matters as much this week as any. But there’s a way to Galaxy Brain everything and past results is no different. Here is a list of players that have performed well in the recent April Masters’:
Horse For The Course
Joh Rahm ($10,800)
Cam Smith ($9,900)
Xander Schauffele ($9,600)
Hideki Matsuyama ($9,300)
Tony Finau ($8,100)
Webb Simpson ($7,500)
Patrick Reed ($7,400)
Si Woo Kim ($7,100)
Let’s strip away the names and go with the numbers. What do these guys generally do well? Here are some trends (past 100 rounds on courses with short rough)
Search all of this (AND WAY MORE) on Fantasy National btw…
TOOLS: 20% Off Fantasy National Tools & Stats
- 5 of them rank inside the top-15 in SG:ARG (the three that aren’t are all top-25 in SG:OTT)
- 6 of them rank top-30 in SG:P from 25+ feet (the two that aren’t are both top-15 in 3-putt avoidance)
- 7 of them rank top-25 in SG: Par 5
- All 8 are top-25 in BoB Gained
If you weigh all of those four categories equally over their past 100 rounds on short rough course, here are your Top 8 per Fantasy National:
1. Webb Simpson
2. Rory McIlroy
3. Dustin Johnson
4. Jordan Spieth
5. Patrick Cantlay
6. Cam Smith
7. Justin Thomas
8. Hideki Matsuyama
Others in the top 30: Kevin Na, Sungjae Im, Sergio Garcia and Xander Schauffele
Buying this train of thought? Here is a lineup option for those that grade out well in this specific model:
DraftKings Ownership
As mentioned, Tambo and I talked this through on today’s show. But after going through it, we did discover the $8K pivots may be the key to claiming a top prize this week. The pivot plays, RANKED in order, I like are…
1) Sam Burns
2) Sungjae Im
3) Daniel Berger
Masters Most Owner $15 Milly Ownerhsip Guesses
Justin Thomas
Jon Rahm
Cameron Smith
Brooks Koekpa
Corey Conners
Si WOOOO Kim
Matt Fitzpatrick
Russell Henley
Dustin Johnson
Weather
The looks to be BLOWIN. I put the top players in terms SG: TOTAL in 17+mph winds in yesterday’s post, and it really hasn’t claimed down much as of yet. The PM/AM looks to be getting slightly less wind, but not enough to really alter what I was thinking all week. If you want to play the weather stacks, just do it both ways.
I did build the first Make the Cut Parlay exclusively with PM/AM if you noticed.
MASTERS WIND TOWER
And, here are the tee times. ICYMI.
That’s a wrap on pre-event coverage from me. Thanks to everyone who tuned in, listened, and read this week. You’ve made 2022 the most successful week of my golf content career and I really appreciate it. I hope you had as much fun consuming it as we did putting it all together.
Now, let’s try to not lose all our cash.
